I LOVE serums. Second only to exfoliation.

Why do I love serums, you ask? Because a serum does the REAL work! They are the hardest workers in the product family. They act as your skincare’s personal assistant, they run the errands, pick up the kids, and schlep the groceries up the stairs! All the stuff your regular products don’t want to or have time to do. You can count on your trusty serum!
What is a serum?
A great serum has laser sharp focus using active ingredients targeting your particular concern. Serums are NOT moisturizers (although you can use them in place of a moisturizer when sleeping). The consistency of a serum is generally much, much lighter than a moisturizer. This allows the hard working molecules to penetrate your skin. Serums should NOT do multiple things at one time.
What does a serum focus on?
My clients generally tell me, aging is their biggest skincare concern. The truth is we get more beautiful as we get older, so embrace it! But, let’s age gracefully. That’s where a serum will help immensely. When you tell me “my skin looks old”, what you mean is… you no longer see plumpness, a youthful glow or that perfectly taut skin. We want our product ingredients to focus on the issues that bother us most. Ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid (which provides hydration to your skin therefore making the plumpness return), Vitamin C (a powerful antioxidant that will give your skin a vacation like glow) or Arnica (which calms inflammation returning your youthful appearance). A serum will use ingredients such as these to target specific issues and get visible results. The market is saturated with serum options. Tell me your concern and we can find a serum to target that issue.
When do I use a serum?
Some serums are great for daytime use, some for nighttime and some can be interchanged or even layered. But, it’s always important to alternate your products. It allows your skin the opportunity to gain a variety of beneficial ingredients to keep your skin on it’s toes! (After all, you wouldn’t eat the same food everyday!)
We will discuss how and why to alternate products in the next “Let’s Talk…” blog post.
Here are 3 serums I would recommend for the most popular skincare concerns:
(All serums should be used on clean skin, applied as your first layer prior to moisturizing.)
Resist C15 Super Booster Vit C Serum: use during the daytime, VitC will help to fight pollutants, even out the skin tone, and strengthens the skin’s barrier. Tip: VitC oxidizes (meaning it starts out clear or yellow then may progress to dark brown/black). Therefore, the longer you have it, the less effective it becomes. So, don’t hoard it. Use it and show off your glow!
Arcona Hydrating Serum: use day and/or night as needed, this serum aids in fighting dehydration. If you feel your current moisturizer isn’t giving you enough oomph, try adding a pump or two of this serum into your moisturizer before investing in a more emollient (heavier) product.
Eminence Skin Calm Arnica Serum: use day and/or night, Arnica soothes the skin by calming inflammation and redness. Start with just a dropper full and adjust the amount as needed.
